Job Description:
In the UK, primary (and certain middle schools) and nursery education teaching professionals shoulder the responsibility of shaping foundational educational experiences. They design, organize, and provide instruction to children right up to the point where they transition into secondary education.

Entry Requirements:
For South Africans keen on pursuing this profession in the UK, the typical prerequisites are:

    • A degree offering Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a Teaching Qualification (TQ).
    • Alternatively, a degree in a related field accompanied by postgraduate training is also deemed acceptable. This mirrors the South African requirement of a Bachelor of Education degree or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Key Tasks:

    • Design and conduct courses in line with curriculum standards, covering an array of subjects.
    • Draft, assign, and mark exercises and exams to keep track of and gauge student growth.
    • Get students ready for external evaluations and oversee these tests.
    • Maintain detailed records of each student’s progress.
    • Ensure a disciplined classroom environment and oversee student behaviour.
    • Conduct activities that bolster linguistic, social, and physical development, like teaching rhymes, reading out stories, etc.
    • Engage in pastoral duties.
    • Manage and oversee the roles of teaching assistants and trainee teachers.
    • Engage in discussions with students, parents, and other education professionals regarding progress.
    • Contribute to or spearhead the planning and development of the curriculum and teaching schedules.
