Job Description:
Primary and nursery education teaching professionals in the UK play an integral role in shaping the foundational years of children’s education. They are responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction to children up to the threshold of secondary education.

Entry Requirements:
To enter this profession in the UK, a candidate typically requires:

    • A degree that provides Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a Teaching Qualification (TQ).
    • Alternatively, a relevant degree followed by postgraduate training is acceptable. In South Africa, this could equate to a Bachelor of Education degree or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Key Tasks:

    • Design and teach courses in alignment with curriculum demands, encompassing a variety of subjects.
    • Prepare, set, and evaluate exercises and exams to gauge student progress.
    • Prepare students for external tests and oversee their administration.
    • Maintain comprehensive records of student progress.
    • Ensure classroom discipline and manage student behaviour.
    • Facilitate activities to promote linguistic, social, and physical development, such as singing simple songs, reading stories, and more.
    • Undertake pastoral duties.
    • Oversee teaching assistants and trainee educators.
    • Engage in discussions about progress with students, parents, and other educational professionals.
    • Contribute to or lead curriculum planning and teaching duty rotation.
